Profile – Irene Manson (2022)

A photograph of Irene MansonI took up flower arranging on my 50th birthday by enrolling on a City & Guilds course at Burchetts Green College. Following this I was inspired to start teaching myself and taught the NAFAS Course at Newbury College. My passion for Education saw me serving on the National Education committee as editor of Insight and as Chairman of that committee being partly responsible for the instigation of the NAFAS /OCN Teacher training certificate.

As a National teacher I have tutored the NAFAS/OCN course four times and thoroughly enjoy teaching club workshops often on education topics.

Although a qualified Area demonstrator I am not currently on the Area list for demonstrating but prefer to have speaking commitments. My current talks are ‘One two Buckle my Shoe’ a close look at the history of shoes with many thought-provoking samples and ‘The Sweet Things in Life‘ – a talk about liquorice and chocolate. I am happy to talk on flower arranging subjects such as flower and garden history.

I believe that my passion for learning and education and my humorous outlook on life is injected into my speaking and teaching.
