Practical Learning
Education is a key activity within NAFAS and the BB&O Area. Practical workshops provide opportunities to share knowledge and learning experiences.
‘Spell Berry’ Workshop: Monday 3o October 2023

The workshop will be led by Area Teacher CAROLINE GOLDING at St John’s Church Cottage, Church Road, Woodley RG5 4QN on Monday 30th October, 11am to 4pm. Cost of the workshop, including some of the materials, is £25. Tea/coffee will be provided but please bring your own lunch. More details to follow.

NAFAS Certified Courses in BB&O Area
A summary of NAFAS certified courses in floral design can be found at NAFAS Courses in Floral Design » NAFAS. In the BB&O Area, Susie Barwick is looking to initially deliver modules 105 Elements of Design and 106 Principles of Design, and a few other tutors are also preparing to teach modules. Anyone interested in these courses should email susie@barwick.myzen.co.uk. Anyone with an appropriate qualification who is interested in becoming a tutor should email layla@nafas.org.uk
Would you like to improve your basic teaching skills?
One of the key aims of NAFAS is to deliver education. In BB&O we have many qualified teachers who deliver first class workshops and courses locally and nationally, but we also have many members who just teach the occasional club workshop and this is an equally valuable way of passing on our skills. To help members deliver such small-scale teaching in a consistent and effective way, NAFAS recently developed the Basic Teaching Course. This low key course does not lead to a teaching qualification but aims to provide the practical knowledge and skills needed to deliver club level workshops. The BB&O Area is considering delivering one of these courses, although maybe via Zoom. There will be two parts: a theory section and a practical session to include a micro teach.
Students will need to purchase the Basic Teaching Manual (£5) downloadable from the NAFAS website, and there may be a nominal charge for our members wishing to attend. If you are interested, please email chairman@bbandoflowers.org.uk (including your name and telephone number) or phone Jane Haas on 01884 860 714
