Citation for Jane Haas for National Associate of Honour
It is a real pleasure and honour to offer this citation for Jane Haas who has been a real asset to NAFAS and the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Area of NAFAS.
Jane took up flower arranging in 2000 when she started the NAFAS Diploma Level 1, which she quickly followed with levels 2 and 3. At the same time she passed the adult education teaching course at Reading Adult College and started to teach leisure classes in 2003. Also, in 2003 she qualified as an area demonstrator. She passed the City and Guilds Level 2 & 3 Contemporary Floral Design Units and in 2012 passed the Level 4 NAFAS course. She is also a qualified National teacher.
Jane was treasurer and chairman of Caversham and Chiltern Flower Club, and treasurer of Greys Flora, a contemporary design group.
She has held many positions at area level, including Education Representative, JDSE Chairman and Area Chairman. She steered the area through the difficult COVID years, organizing Zoom council meetings, leading the way with teaching and demonstrating via Zoom, and photo competitions to keep everyone informed and interested.
Jane’s passion for education led to her serving on the National Education committee for a period of 8 years, where she also took on the roles of Chairman and Editor of Insight. pioneered the development of the NAFAS Level Four Contemporary Floral Design module which culminated in the students on her course staging ‘Fourth Dimension’, an exhibition of contemporary floral art, in June 2012.
Jane helped to organise many Teacher Conferences and the running of the Education Stand for several National Shows where she has given freely of her time and knowledge.
She has taken key roles in three flower festivals in the BB&O area and was the co-designer of a festival of land art. She has arranged flowers at Westminster Abbey on several occasions.
Jane is a keen competitor, winning many awards at Area and National level. She has achieved a Best in Show at Hampton Court, gold at Harrogate Flower Show, and silver-gilt at Chelsea Flower Show on more than one occasion, as well as many awards at NAFAS National shows.
Jane fully deserves recognition as a National Associate of Honour.
